The University of Colorado Denver in collaboration with the Denver Veterans Affairs Medical Center (DVAMC) and the Denver Health Medical Center (DHMC) now offers a one-year program designed to train psychiatrists in the assessment and care of older adults. Our new geriatric psychiatry fellowship is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

The geriatric population is quickly expanding and training capable psychiatrists to meet this groups growing mental health needs is an important priority. Our program supports this goal with a commitment to provide the necessary foundation in geriatric care. Upon completion of the program, our fellows will be trained to provide consultation, interpret research, and serve as educators in the field of geriatric psychiatry. We offer a broad range of clinical and didactic experiences to develop skills in the assessment and treatment of older adults.

Summary of the curriculum:
* Inpatient geriatric psychiatry at two clinical sites - Denver Health Medical Center and the Denver VAMC
* Outpatient geriatric psychiatry clinic
* Memory disorder evaluation clinic
* Telepsychiatry
* Nursing home consultation at Rowan Community Nursing Home
* Protected time for didactics and supervision Elective opportunities include:
* Research
* Rehabilitation medicine
* Home based health care
* Pain management
* Behavioral neurology
